Skating Shadows is inspired by the National Geographic’s famous camel picture and was achieved during the Open Dutch marathon-speedskating Championships (ONK). Vincent Riemersma was flying his drone for an overview picture over 100km on the natural ice of Weissensee (Austria) when the shapes and angle of the shadows instantly triggered his attention. He saw it as an opportunity not to be missed since the lake is often covered with clouds or the shadows are not perfectly angeled when the conditions are good and the peloton is still compact. It only took two shots to get the perfect composition and shapes and he immediately knew it was a unique picture.
