Insight on Sports Science / Justin's Legacy (TVNZ)
- Julia Sartorio (New Zealand)
An investigation into the first New Zealand rugby player to be diagnosed with Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy or CTE, a degenerative brain disease that’s been linked to repeated knocks to the head. CTE has forced American Football’s NFL into a $1 billion dollar compensation settlement to ex-players and is changing the way the game is played. TVNZ's Sunday programme travelled to the Boston Brain Bank, the world’s largest, which holds the brains of some of America’s most famous athletes – almost all have CTE. We told the story of a kiwi rugby player who never fulfilled his dream of becoming and All Black but who in death may turn out to be the most important player ever produced in Aotearoa. Crew: Myself (Producer & Researcher) Mark Crysell (Reporter) Andrew Dalton & William Green (Camera Op) Paul Anderson (Editor) Ben Oren (GFXs) All footage original apart from rugby games sourced from SKY TV. GFXs all designed in-house.
